Rare Apple-1 Computer Hits the Auction Block

0

This Year, 2021 marks the 45th anniversary of the birth of Apple, and John Moran Auctioneers is giving tech lovers the opportunity to own a piece of Apple History with the Auction of The Chaffey College Apple-1.

The Chaffey College Apple-1 will be available at auction during the Post-war & Contemporary Art + Design Sale on November 9, 2021.

A fascinating piece of tech history, it features many period-correct and original parts, such as a motherboard, monitor, keyboard, 2 cassette tapes, 3 wires, and a period xerox-copy of the original owner’s manual, all in working condition!

It has been extensively authentication, restoration, inspection, and generating a full condition report.

In mint condition, the Chaffey College Apple-1 is valued at around $400,000 – $600,000. It was originally owned by an electronics professor at Chaffey College who purchase it in 1977 who then sold it to his student.

“I purchased this used from the original owner in 1977. He was a teacher at Chaffey College, and I was taking his programming course. He was excited to buy the Apple-II and sold me this for about $650. Of course, nobody knew it would become a collector’s item…”

Angela Bryant

Apple is one of the world’s largest technology companies, valued in the Trillions and founded by two steve in one garage and the Apple Computer 1, more commonly known as the Apple-1.

Back in 1976, electronic engineer Steve Wozniak (b. 1950) team up with marketing guru and industrial designer Steve Jobs (1955-2011) to build the Apple 1.

The first version of the company’s personal computer built by Steve Wozniak was essentially a motherboard and a manual with instructions on which components needed to be purchased in order to assemble and use the machine. Wozniak contemplated making instructions available on how to build the computer he designed from start to finish for free to anyone who had the patience to create one on their own.

Steve Jobs convinced him to instead combine the motherboard and its connections into a magazine box and sell them as a kit. 200 Apple-1 computers were hand-built by Wozniak, Jobs, and a skeleton crew in the garage that belonged to Jobs’ parents. 175 of them were sold for $666.66, a figure that catered to Wozniak’s love of repeating numbers. 50 of the 175 computers were sold to Paul Terrell, owner of Byte Shop in Mountain View, California.

When Jobs delivered the 50 Magazine boxes each containing an Apple-1 kit, Paul Terrell was not happy. He anticipated 50 all-in-one units that could simply be plugged in by the consumer, an unheard-of concept at the time. Jobs defended his delivery by pointing out that each box included all necessary elements to compose the machine and further convinced Terrell that Byte Shop could make a profit by selling keyboards, monitors, and power supplies within their store as an opportunity to upsell the product.

The wooden case that houses this computer is made from Koa wood and is in very good condition. In the 1970s Koa wood (native to Hawaii) was abundant on the west coast, but due to cattle grazing and extensive logging, the Koa tree is rare and more expensive. There are only six known examples of the Koa wooden case in existence, and this unit is one of them.

Epic Games Store embraces blockchain and NFT games

Epic Games has affirmed that it is open to selling video games that use Blockchain and NFTs within its Store, according to GamesIndustry.Biz.

Tim Sweeney, Epic Games CEO tweeted that his company would allow titles using blockchain and NFT technology “provided they follow the relevant laws, disclose their terms, and are age-rated by the appropriate group.”

The news comes on the heels of Valve’s recent Steam Store Ban on Blockchains-based and NFT inclusive games. These new guidelines from Valve completely ban game developers on steam from publishing “applications built on blockchain technology that issue or allow exchange of cryptocurrencies or NFTs,”.

Sweeney further clarified that Epic doesn’t currently use Blockchain Technology nor NFTs within its games but would welcome the innovation which would improve gaming technology and finance.

He also noted:  “As a technology, the blockchain is just a distributed transactional database with a decentralized business model that incentivizes investment in hardware to expand the database’s capacity. This has utility whether or not a particular use of it succeeds or fails.”

Great for Blockchain, NFT, and Crypto Games?

Not so fast, while Epic Games provided further details to the Verge which emphasize that there are some limitations.

They say those limitations will be clarified at a later date while they work with game developer on how they plan to include blockchain tech within their titles.

Epic will also use this discovery stage in order to decide how they will use blockchain technology within their name titles.

This news should come as a welcomed one from Game developers who were affected by Steams ban and we should look forward to how Epic will handle this technology.

Light Nite gets a New Battle Royale mode

Satoshi Games has announced the addition of a Battle Royale Mode for its Light Nite Game, the first bitcoin micro-rewards, and bitcoin NFTs third-person shooter game.

The new Battle Royale mode is now available for early-access owners of the game who number into the thousands currently enjoying the games Beta Phase.

A Preview trailer of the Light Nite Battle Royale Mode

Light Nite is developed and published by Satoshi Games since its launch back in April 2020. The game was first built as a single-player mode aimed squarely at the bitcoin and cryptocurrency markets and community.

What is Light Nite Battle Royale?

The new Battle Royale mode is a multiplayer third-person shooter just like Epic’s Fortnite but with in-game Bitcoin rewards and a more minimalistic low-poly & cartoonish design.

As a play-to-earn scheme, Bitcoin Micro-transactions add a new layer of interaction with the game. Players essentially earn as they play in casual mode and withdraw using a Lightning Network Wallet.

The game also features:

  • Bitcoin as in-game currency: using the satoshi, the smallest part of the Bitcoin, Light Nite offers players a real value for anything they do in-games: achievements, wins and other actions in the game are rewarded with Bitcoin.
  • Ranked and playtoearn game modes: Players can enjoy a classical ranked mode based on ELO or a playtoearn mode where they can get more Bitcoin or NFTs from other players for deathmatch, team deathmatch, and Battle Royale.
  • NFTs for most in-game items: most in-game gear like character skins and accessories, weapons skins, and others are NFTs that are tradable in Elixir.APP market and users are already trading thousands monthly. This means items have a strong real value that players will be able to increase as they win battles while decreasing scarcity, and then trade to cash out their profits in a public marketplace. Today assets can already be withdrawn to a Liquid-supported wallet and transferred to any other player.

You can become an Early Access Player of the Game by simply using the Elixer Launcher, Satoshi Games Launcher.

The Elixer Launcher allows you to:

  • Cash-out in-game gear and skins inventories
  • Secure uniqueness of in-game items through a scarcity system enabled by its tokenization system: no unlimited editions of skins, all of them accounted for
  • Use an NFT Marketplace, allowing players to trade items from any of the games in the platform, directly with other players

Elixer Launcher is available for download on your Windows, macOS, and Linux Desktop devices.

There are also the Elixer Mobile Apps are available for both iOS and Android Devices which is currently in closed Beta.
