Kingston, Jamaica – The U.S. Embassy in Kingston has just announced the opening of applications for the 2026-27 Fulbright Foreign Student Program, including the Fulbright Faculty Development Program.
This is your chance to pursue a Master’s or PhD degree in the United States!
The Fulbright program is all about fostering leadership and contributing to Jamaica’s development while gaining a deeper understanding of the USA. They’re looking for candidates with exceptional promise and a commitment to building their home country.
What Fields of Study are Covered?
Pretty much a wide range! You can apply in areas like:
- Humanities
- Performing and Visual Arts
- Social Sciences
- Natural Sciences
- Engineering
- Education
- And many more!
However, some fields are excluded, such as Law, Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, and MBAs or professional degrees leading to a professional credential.
Fulbright Faculty Development Program
This sub-category is specifically for those with a commitment to university lecturing. You’ll need to demonstrate teaching/tutoring experience at the tertiary level and plan to return to Jamaica to contribute to local tertiary institutions.
Who’s Eligible?
- Jamaican citizens currently residing in Jamaica.
- Graduates of local universities with first-class or upper second-class honors bachelor’s degrees.
- A commitment to Jamaica’s national development.
Note: Persons with “green cards” or current students at a U.S. university are not eligible.
What’s Covered?
The Fulbright program provides generous financial coverage, including:
- J1 exchange visa.
- Airline travel to and from the U.S.
- Tuition assistance.
- A monthly stipend.
- Book allowance.
- Health insurance.
Important Requirements
- You’ll need to take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT).
- If selected, you’ll also need to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exam.
