Public Opinion

Users have given their reviews thus far via social media, that  is to say:
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ivutv
Twitter:https://twitter.com/#!/ivu_tv
Some Opinions:
Welcome To The Future : iVutv is Here! 1CONGRATS, we love it already! RT: Really feel accomplished about launching  ! !”Welcome To The Future : iVutv is Here! 2Seriously excited about tom,  goes live!!!!! That ish cray…online caribbean entertainment will never be the same

Our Opinion

Welcome To The Future : iVutv is Here! 3
iVutv proud itself in being acceptable of all comments from the public[good or bad]hence our very critical opinion. Users are free to give their feedback on the Service via their website
In our opinion the iVutv website is well-designed. Upon registering for the website The user is, met with quick signup without any hassle… straight to the point,  “Welcome Vishtany”[which means they use your email to give your name].
The programs which I first watch were great but there is some visual issues that might not be the case for everyone.

Critical

Critically missing is the Empty Privacy Policy [Policy] & Usage Policy which is vital online for any legal matters concerning users’ data and concerning advertising which is the site’s main revenue until its second-year kicks in.
Where is The Company Blog for iVutv? Ok, so the company site does not have a blog to save our critical judgment on this point but be sure to take this up when building the website @joinemedia.com/ …. remember to add a blog. The site also provides great documentation work via FAQs & other pages.
In all great response to The Caribbean Online Tv Network idea is needed. Our hope is that the improvements & additions to come soon & in the second year[future] will go ahead fine, with all that said we Give them The Best of Wishes.

Columbus Communications Rebrands Flows Logo

Columbus Communications Rebrands Flows Logo 4Columbus Communications, the retail and wholesale telecommunications company in the Caribbean and Latin America, has made a press release announcing that they will be presenting a new logo to all its Operations in the Caribbean ( Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica , Grenada and Curacao) with one unified logo, a Branding strategy which is quite common as is present with Digicel Group and LIME.
According to Brendan Paddick, CEO of Columbus Communications, in an address to all employees: “In six short years, we have not only managed to change the technology landscape of each country through our products and services, but we have also equipped people with the ability to transform their lives. This change is an acknowledgement that we are a larger, more relevant player now, and that we have a new chapter in our story to tell. Now is the time for consumers to know the true scope, scale and reach of our brand.”
Spearheading the exercise Rhea Yaw Ching, corporate vice president, sales and marketing will unveiled the new brand mission: “Enable people to transform their lives by providing them with leading communications technologies and services that inspire them to achieve.”
Since Columbus’s entry into the Caribbean in 2005 under the brand Flow, the company has been actively constructing and deploying its digital network, the infrastructure that provides its superior video service, unmatched broadband and affordable telephone service. Trinidad will be 100% converted in just one year, Jamaica, a country of almost 2.7 million people has surpassed the 50% mark of homes constructed, and recent acquisitions: Grenada in 2008 is 80% rebuilt, and Curaçao in 2010 is already 30% complete. The company promises continued investment in the region.
Writers Views
The writer believes this will be a proper move seen that a unified brand across the region presents better management of regional marketing efforts and it is only left up to The Jamaican operations which has presented the brand in a great light to present this new Logo to us effectively.

Caribbean/Trinidad wins Worlds Hottest Pepper Title

Caribbean/Trinidad wins Worlds Hottest Pepper Title 5
Courtesy of Jim Duffy, New Mexico State University – This undated image provided by New Mexico State University shows the Trinidad Moruga Scorpion, the new hottest pepper on the planet, as identified by NMSU’s Chile Pepper Institute. Researchers determined the golf ball-sized pepper has a mean Scoville Heat Unit value of 1.2 million. (AP Photo/Courtesy of Jim Duffy, New Mexico State University)

Its Official according to new Mexican Chile experts, Trinidad’s Moruga Scorpion is the worlds most hottest pepper. The world has a wide variation of peppers but its the sweat-inducing, tear-generating, mouth-on-fire Trinidad Moruga Scorpion which experts at New Mexico State University’s Chile Pepper Institute have identified the variety as the new hottest pepper on the planet…. Planet Earth.

The golf ball-sized pepper scored the highest among a handful of chile breeds reputed to be among the hottest in the world. Its mean heat topped more than 1.2 million units on the Scoville heat scale, while fruits from some individual plants reached 2 million heat units.

Paul Bosland,a renowned pepper expert and director of the chile institute was qouted as saying “You take a bite. It doesn’t seem so bad, and then it builds and it builds and it builds. So it is quite nasty,”.

The research as pushed by a by hot sauce makers, seed producers and others in the spicy foods industry to establish the average heat levels for super-hot varieties in an effort to quash unscientific claims of which peppers are actually the hottest. Which has been something that hasn’t been one before

“The question was, could the Chile Pepper Institute establish the benchmark for chile heat?” he said. “Chile heat is a complex thing, and the industry doesn’t like to base it on just a single fruit that’s a record holder. It’s too variable.” The academic institute is based at the university’s agriculture school and is partially funded by federal grants, as well as some industry groups depending on the project.

The team planted about 125 plants of each variety — the Trinidad Moruga Scorpion, the Trinidad Scorpion, the 7-pot, the Chocolate 7-pot and the Bhut Jolokia, which was a previous record-holder identified by the institute and certified by Guinness World Records in 2007.

Randomly selected mature fruits from several plants within each variety were harvested, dried and ground to powder. The compounds that produce heat sensation — the capsaicinoids — were then extracted and examined.

During harvesting, senior research specialist Danise Coon said she and the two students who were picking the peppers went through about four pairs of latex gloves.

“The capsaicin kept penetrating the latex and soaking into the skin on our hands. That has never happened to me before,” she said.

Chile peppers of the same variety can vary in heat depending on environmental conditions. More stress on a plant — hotter temperatures or less water, such as — will result in hotter fruit.

The Trinidad Moruga Scorpion’s new notoriety is already making waves in the industry and among those who love their hot, spicy foods.

“As with all the previous record holders, there will be a run on seeds and plants,” said Jim Duffy, a grower in San Diego who supplied the university with seeds for four of the super-hot varieties. “Like Cabbage Patch dolls right before Christmas or Beanie Babies, it’s like the hot item.”

Not even Duffy or the researchers would dare to pop a whole Trinidad Moruga Scorpion in their mouths, but there are plenty of videos on social networking sites where heat-loving daredevils have tried.

The blood flow increases and the endorphins start flowing. Their faces turn red, the sweat starts rolling, their eyes and noses water and there’s a fiery sensation that spreads across their tongues and down their throats.

“People actually get a crack-like rush,” Duffy said. “I know the people who will eat the hottest stuff to get this rush, but they’ve got to go through the pain.”

Pepper experts said there are a handful of people who are crazy enough to subject themselves to the pain, but the rest just want to try out these super-hot peppers on their friends or make killer hot sauce — and it doesn’t take a whole pepper to do that.

More bang for the buck is how Bosland describes it. He said a family could buy two of the super-hot peppers to flavor their meals for an entire week.

The beauty of the peppers is they’re not only the hottest in the world, but they’re also some of the most flavorful peppers, Duffy said.

“You can make a barbeque sauce or a hot sauce at a mild to medium level using small amounts of these peppers and it will be so darn addictive that you won’t want to put your spoon down,” he said. “You’ll want to eat and eat and eat.”

Stay Tuned for a follow-up.

During his visit, Prince Harry, who is a Captain in the British army, will take part in military exercises with fellow officers at the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) Up Park Camp base, and co-pilot a JDF helicopter to Trelawny, after which he will visit the Falmouth Pier and renovated Water Square.Preparations are well underway for next month’s visit of Prince Henry of Wales, always known as Prince Harry, who will be in Jamaica, March 5-8, representing Her Majesty, as part of the international celebrations commemorating the 6oth anniversary of her coronation.

In Falmouth, the Prince will stop at the William Knibb Baptist Church and pay brief respects at the memorial that was erected by the free Jamaicans in honour of the emancipator, William Knibb.  Prince Harry will later be treated to a Jamaica Night reception at the Sandals Royal Caribbean Hotel in Montego Bay.  The evening will showcase Jamaican cuisine and culture.

Other highlights of the visit will include a tour of the Bustamante Hospital for Children and the Victoria Jubilee Hospital; a visit to see a training session at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Usain Bolt Track; listening to a moot debate by students at the UWI, Mona Law Faculty; and a visit to the non-governmental association, RISE Life, which serves communities in downtown Kingston.

The Governor-General will host a dinner at King’s House in honour of the Prince and at which Prince Harry is expected to deliver a speech recognising Jamaica’s 50th anniversary as an independent nation.  The Prince’s visit will be of value to Jamaica as it will highlight the country’s tourism developments on the North Coast and Falmouth in particular, as well as the important work being done in youth and children.

Prince Harry will visit Belize and the Bahamas ahead of his visit to Jamaica, which will be his last official duty in honour of his grandmother’s Diamond Jubilee.  The Queen’s most recent visit to Jamaica was in 2002.  Prince Harry’s father, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, represented the Queen on an official visit in 2008.

JBA Winner Predictions 17
The best Technology Blog Banner

It is coming down to the wire for the list of Nominees for 2011’s Jamaica Blog Awards for which Our blog has been nominated.
The results are slated for this Sunday January 15, 2012 where nominees will know their fate While we can only give a view of what the winners for the categories for which we are involved will look like.

Here is our predictions:
Best Technology Blog
The best Technology blog category has 4 blogs nominated in the category with that of :

  1. www.Siliconcribe.com
  2. www.Geezam.com
  3. www.Samswebguide.com
  4. and our Previous Domain yahja.blogspot.com
From all accounts based on our own nomination to this category i would give the Award to Geezam. Its a fact that the team over at Geezam Provides the best Technology Related posts with the safety of the highest detail.

Русский: Флаг Ямайки Slovenščina: državna zast...
Image via Wikipedia

Its fair to judge that we are not ruling out Siliconcaribe which continues to do its best, Samswebguide and our own Yahja but its  fair Prediction that Geezam will be the fair winner.

Commented Support and the size of their staff can give a fair added reasoning to predict the winners….Geezam
Best News/Current Affairs Blog
Again this category comes with the list of four blogs which might be at times unknown[not including our self in the unknown but it might be truth] to the writer but one can only predict from the list who the likely winner will be:

  1. http://constructedthoughts.wordpress.com/
  2. http://yahja.blogspot.com/
  3. http://www.jamaicapage.com/
  4. http://moneymax101.com/
There is quite an uncertainness in this category but based on our research of the nominees …… sorry but here is our research which in it self left us empty.
  • Constructive thoughts presents  very medium coverage of the matter but great thoughts.
  • It fair judgement being Yahja that yahja needed to cover much more news/current affairs issues during that time hence we might rule our selves out in a small way.
  • Jamaica page seems to be the ultimate news/current affairs nominee and one might give them the Trophy as the winner and just end it. It has moderate design, post to date have no comments, 506 Facebook fans and 1,623 Followers on Twitter
  • while moneymax101 fair to judge might be a possible compromise based on what we can see.
In Fair and quick judgement the winner in our eyes is jamaicapage. Early Congratulations if we might be so fair to judge.
JBA Winner Predictions 18
The best News/Current Affairs Blog Banner

There is the sad face of those who where either not nominated or not aware of the awards in its second year of running. Onlike its first year we have seen a minuscule list of sponsors compared to the first awards bck in 2011 for the JBA 2010 awards. Its fair to say that the organizers might want to add a little extra promotion next time around.
We can only wait and see who the winners will be aftr thier unveiling tomarrow.

Just to say that this blog has recently re-branded and added the area of Caribbean entertainment which takes into light a wide area here is a our first feature with concern to entertainment. YJBeat Ent will continue to feature videos of artists while leaving room for reviews from writers, commenting readers and social media channels.

Our Views
I have no close famelierity with this artist but the description of this video mentions the following:

Leighton Miller represents the new generation of vocal supremacy in reggae music. Check him out as his silky, smooth voice throbs and penetrates through the inner soul of his luscious female fans. Their men watch and tap their feet, smiling as they build up the courage to say “Silly of Me”….

The videos captivates the words of the song, bringing to light the situations which the song ay concern. the acting is the good. The critical area’s are there but we prefer not to mention hence we would recommend one to listen. On analysis of statistics provided on the video, so far Major Demographics are USA and Africa.

Please head over to YouTube and watch it here:

YJBeat would love your comments on this video… the question is whether you like it or otherwise?
We will be sure to keep track of this artist for our Entertainment section and many others(artists) too.

Online Coverage: Apps

0

As Part of the On going Political Campaign ahead for the General Elections that we are covering on a Technological and News end here are a few helpful online Apps that can help you with gathering and Making sense with the Election results come December 28, 2011.

On The Ground News Report Election App

OG.NR Election Map 2011-nohideOG.NR Election Map 2011

OGNR is Jamaica’s and Maybe the Caribbean best Citizen Journalism organization and they have done their best in providing a space where you can get the best graph of the elections results that might in this time not be seen by any other app.

It Uses a Google Map which has each and every constituency which when clicked on reveals all the candidates and its slated on election night it will be colour coded with the winners giving a full view of who won were in a more Graphical way.

Kudos To OGNR For making this App Possible and we are also looking to use it on Election night.

Here is a video that explains it a bit more:

CVMTV Election Centre

Another Great Place to watch the Election results is the CVMTV Elections Centre at Elections.CVMTV.com which has a list of almost all candidates and has a map of Jamaican constituencies which should be active on Election Night One Results are in.

Sure Twitter will be among your choice of following the updates but make sure to be on these apps to get a full graphical view of who wins which Constituents and by what margins.

A Bonus: You Can Use Right Now and In the Future: Owensoft’s Election Manifesto Word Search

Jamaica Elections 2011 - Manifesto Word Searchhttp://owensoft.net/project/agow2011/

This web app provides a Broad Search Election 2011 Manifesto of JLP, PNP, JAM, NDM and The MGPPP. Its a good app at finding the Psychology of writers/framers of the manifests for which the might emphasize on using Repetition of certain words too often in the manifestos. One Word That is popular is the Word “Jamaica” which is referred to 576 times in all the manifestos.

Jamaican Politics Online: 2nd Edition

0

A lot has change over the last view days leading up to the local Jamaican General elections but as promised we will continue to look at The Online presents of political parties with focus third parties. I will also address matters that might have changed or updated in concern to our first post >>>   http://yjbeat.wordpress.com/2011/11/25/jamaican-politics-online-2/.

In Jamaica Third Parties and/or on most part are not given a chance but we are sure if their use of Social And Communication Platforms of the web in addition to Nationwide Media Campaign Coverage would Give them the ultimate over joined with some personal beliefs of the writer he doesn’t state here.

Updates to the Previous Story:

I the previous story i failed to mention a number of websites that we much improved and form a basic focal point for elections. It is this method which can be referred as a separation of purpose for political websites, being one for organization and on for campaigning which no doubt adds a nice bill on hosting cost if one looks at it that way.

One such website is this One Which is the PNPs Election Campaign Main centre shown below:

The People's National Party Official website-113634

http://pnp2011.org/

One has to give the Peoples National Party Credit for designing this wonderful Campaign Centre And hope the continue using the web has a focal point for campaigning. This site comes with streaming, news posts, a list of candidates  and the much faired campaign ads that are at times exclusive to the site.

Now On to These Third Parties….

The Marcus Garvey’s Peoples Political Party(MGPPP)

Marcus Garvey - Home Page-102836http://mgppp.com/

On a Website sense their website is in need of a bit of design upgrade but it does meet our expectation of what a party founded on 9/9/1929 by the National Hero the Right Honourable  Marcus Garvey would look like.

One advice would be to get a more modern look going on the website…. but at least they have a website which can show their commitment.

On the Social Media Sense we did  some search on Google and twitter and came up with the result of came up and empty one which means they do not have a twitter presence but they do however have an effort to have a Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Marcus-Garvey-Peoples-Political-Party/299540343402119 which only has 9 followers inclusive of the writer joining the bunch.

i Would advise them to step up the pace but many may take light with with matters stated before in this section concerning the Philosophy behind the party.

The New Nations Coalition(NNC)

A Movement of Hope and Positive Conviction- The New Nation Coalition – Justice, Peace, Prosperity - New Nation Coalition

With the NNC being a New Party a year old and Born in the Social Web Break you would think we would give it some leniency but it should however get the highest scrutiny.

Based on the Fact that they won’t be contesting this election you would go thinking we won’t cover them But YJ Beat has the Feeling they will still play  and important role and will cover them anyone none the less. website we found we would say it was Designed with Design in Mind thought someone like the author of this post would want to see something else.

Based On Social Media Coverage i would say they have done the best with the platforms with them having a Facebook account at http://en-gb.facebook.com/people/Newnationcoalition-Nnc/100001395648598, which is provided as a direct link via their website. It is this Facebook account that has 389 and rising friends. Its Fair to say if they turned on facebooks subscribe button or added a Facebook Page to the mix their might a bit of difference in those numbers.

Our search also covered a group on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2345335621 which to our knowledge is a forum of wise discussions by anyone wishing to join concerning Jamaica, it has 44 members listed and uses the old facebook Group Function/Look.

The Judgement of the NNC is fair but much work is to be done.

The National Democratic Movement(NDM)

Jamaica NDM

www.ndmj.org

Now these guys have their roots way back but have in recent come up with this new website that meets a far match of that of the site you get  when you visit www.ndm4jamaica.org. One has to also give them credit for having the Smallest Domain length, at least four characters short and to the point.

On the Social Media Side We Have no reference anywhere via Twitter or Facebook But we presume maybe they are not shown. This party can concede to having the worse social /Online Existence until shown differently(Maybe someone can address this in the comments.)

Conclusion

The  Function of online Political Promotion is very much in fine fashion and fan fair thought it is not as we would wish it to be but over time the Intense usage will increase in elections to come.

Feel free to leave comments below on this topic and also remind us if we left anything out.
