Cox Media Group Restores Stations via Multi-year Agreement with DIRECTV

Cox Media Group (CMG) and DIRECTV have announced that they jointly come to a multi-year agreement which will see all CMG stations on DIRECTV, DIRECTV STREAM and U-verse, effective immediately.

The news comes just weeks after both parties could not reach a re-transmission agreement and saw the removal affected 12 CMG stations in nine markets on the operator’s DirecTV satellite service, its virtual MVPD DirecTV Stream, and U-Verse system, go dark.

These disagreements have become common as DIRECTV contended that existing agreements were unreasonable.

“CMG is playing chicken with the industry, willfully ignoring the economics that its programming does not warrant a double-digit annual rate increase on top of an already exorbitant fee structure,” wrote DirecTV in a message to customers.

Cox then launched a website where customers could learn more here to watch the same programming for free with over-the-air content, including through local station websites and via network streaming apps at https://www.directv.com/tvpromise/
