Sony Electronics Inc. has just announced the AS-DT1 LiDAR Depth Sensor, which it claims is the world’s smallest and lightest LiDAR Depth Sensor.
Measuring just 29mm x 29mm x 31mm and weighing only 50g, this sensor packs a punch in a tiny package.
Leveraging Sony’s expertise in miniaturization and optical lens technologies from its machine vision industrial cameras, the AS-DT1 is perfect for applications where space and weight are critical, like drones and robotics.

The AS-DT1 uses “Direct Time of Flight (dToF)’ LiDAR technology, which allows for fast and accurate measurement and distance resolution. The range module, equipped with a Single Photon Avalanche Diode (SPAD) sensor, measures lengths, widths, and depths.
The AS-DT1 can measure distances to low-contrast subjects, objects with low reflectivity, and floating objects, which allows for measurement in diverse environments. This new product doesn’t just work indoor it work outdoors. It fits well with a series of devices like food service robots and mobile robots.
The AS-DT1 is expected to be available in Spring 2026 and will be exhibited at Xponential in Houston, May 20-22, 2025.

Sony Electronics Inc. is a subsidiary of Sony Corporation of America and an affiliate of Sony Group Corporation creates products that innovate and inspire generations in electronics, music, motion pictures, mobile, gaming, robotics and financial services.
