Threads Gets Even More Customizable with New Features

Threads is rolling out a batch of new features designed to give users more control over their experience on the platform.

These updates focus on personalization, content management, and improving the video experience.

Showcase Your Interests with Topics in Your Bio

Threads is testing a new way for users to personalize their profiles. You’ll soon be able to add up to ten topics to your bio, giving others a quick glimpse into your favorite communities and interests.

Tapping on a topic in someone’s profile will take you directly to conversations about it, making it easier to connect with like-minded individuals. Threads will also provide prompts to add suggested trending topics or topics related to your previous posts, helping your content reach a wider audience. The timely topics tag has also been redesigned to be more prominent in the For You feed.

Threads’ internal data suggests that adding topics to posts is beneficial, as posts with tagged topics generally receive more views.

More Control Over Posts and Feeds

Threads is adding new options for managing interactions with your posts and customizing your feeds.

• Follower-Only Replies and Quote-Posts: You can now choose to allow replies and quote-posts only from your followers. This builds on the Quote Controls feature introduced in November 2024.
• Civic Content Update: Threads has updated its approach to political posts and has begun phasing civic content back into Threads in a more personalized way.
• Feed Order Personalization: You can now personalize the order of your feeds, setting a custom feed as your default when you open the app.

Improved Video Experience

Threads has enhanced its media player with new pause, play, and skip buttons for easier video watching. A pinned progress bar has also been added, allowing for more precise navigation within videos.
