Broomfield, USA (May 27, 2025) – Vail Resorts, Inc. today announced a leadership change with Rob Katz appointed as the company’s new Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately.
Katz, who previously served as Executive Chairperson, replaces Kirsten Lynch, who has stepped down as CEO and from the Board of Directors.
Lynch will transition into an advisory role for an interim period to ensure a smooth handover. The Board stated in the announcement that this transition aligns with Vail Resorts’ focus on executing strategic priorities and transformational initiatives, believing it is “the right time” for the change. The Board highlighted Katz’s extensive track record over three decades with the company, citing his role in driving innovation, performance, and strategy, including his previous 16-year tenure as CEO.

Bruce Sewell, Lead Independent Director, praised Katz’s history and looked forward to continued collaboration to “consistently deliver for our employees, guests, communities, and shareholders.” Sewell also expressed gratitude for Kirsten Lynch’s “leadership and contributions over her 14-year career,” including her work on the Epic Pass and guiding the business through challenges. Rob Katz shared his honor in returning to the CEO role and his passion for the company and the sport. He emphasized a deep commitment to all stakeholders and a culture of innovation, thanking Lynch for setting the stage for future growth. Lynch also expressed her gratitude for her time with Vail Resorts, calling it an “Experience of a Lifetime,” and stating she remains a “lifelong champion” of the company.
Katz, age 58, has a long history with Vail Resorts, dating back to 1991. He served as CEO from February 2006 to November 2021 before taking on the role of Executive Chairperson. He will continue to serve as Chairperson of the Board, which consists of 11 directors.
The report also included a brief business update: the company reaffirms its fiscal 2025 guidance outlook, expecting Resort Reported EBITDA in the lower half of the previously issued range (excluding one-time costs related to the CEO transition). Early season pass sales results through the May 26 deadline remain consistent with trends provided in a previous release. More details are expected during the company’s fiscal 2025 third quarter earnings call scheduled for June 5, 2025. Rob Katz is also known as the founder of the Katz Amsterdam Foundation, which works to improve access to mental and behavioral healthcare in mountain communities.
