OAKLAND, USA (June 6, 2025) – A community in Oakland is mourning and demanding answers following the death of Dr. Marvin Boomer, Jr., described as a brilliant Black man, scholar, and teacher.
His family and their attorney, Michelle D. Bernard, spoke publicly, alleging that his death was a direct result of reckless police pursuit policies in East Oakland.

According to the statement made at a gathering, Dr. Boomer was walking with his partner, Nina, when he encountered a dangerous situation related to a police pursuit.
He is hailed as a hero for prioritizing Nina’s safety and shielding her before his own life was lost.
The attorney stated that Dr. Boomer was not a suspect and was not involved in any wrongdoing himself.
The attorney drew a stark contrast, suggesting that such a tragedy would not have occurred in wealthier, more privileged areas. However, she argued, in East Oakland, where Black and Brown lives are often seen differently, pursuit policies allegedly created deadly consequences.
The family of Dr. Boomer is standing firm in their call for accountability and justice.
Those present included his mother, Ms. Tina Boomer; his father, Mr. Marvin Boomer, Sr.; his sisters, Tynesha Boomer, Deborah Martin, and Brittany Boomer; and his partner, Ms. Nina Woodruff.
Attorney Michelle D. Bernard, who is also the President & CEO of The Bernard Center for Women, Politics & Public Policy, stated she is deeply honored to represent the family in their pursuit of truth, accountability, and justice. The family and their attorney are urging the community to say Dr. Marvin Boomer, Jr.’s name and stand with them until justice is achieved.
The call to action includes the hashtags #JusticeForDrMarvinBoomerJr, #SayHisName, #BlackLivesMatter, and #NoMoreRecklessPursuits.
