OXFORD, United Kingdom – Nominet, the registry operator for .UK web domains, has released the results of a recent survey revealing a surge in interest in British goods, following changes in US foreign trade policy.
The survey found that 49% of British adults would make them more likely to buy British due to the introduction of tariffs by the United States on goods from the United Kingdom.

The Nominet survey of 2,000 British adults also revealed that only 14% wouldn’t be more likely to buy British, while 37% remained undecided about their future decisions, and that the pride in British goods was higher among those aged 55 and over. 64% of those surveyed feel this pride, following the tariff announcement.
Those in the North East and West Midland regions were most likely to change their buying habits because of the tariffs.
54% agreed that a UK web address with addresses ending in co.uk or .uk, influenced where they purchased online. The choice is significantly higher for the older generation.
In the South East of England and Scotland, people mostly like to buy from a UK domain name.
David Carroll, Chief Customer Officer at Nominet, says: “We’ve seen a Trump bump of our own in terms of online searches for UK domain names over the last week or so. With pride returning to buying British – it looks like a growing number of businesses and individuals are looking at registering a UK web address to join the 10m already registered.”
According to Google searches, ‘co.uk’ has seen its highest number of searches since February 2024.
