NHN’s Zombie Apocalypse Game ‘Darkest Days’ Gears Up for Open Beta After Successful Global Test

NHN’s in-house developed open-world shooting RPG, Darkest Days, is moving forward with its global rollout plans.

Following a successful global test, NHN has announced that the Open Beta Test (OBT) is scheduled for late April.

The global test, which ran from February 24 to March 3, engaged approximately 57,000 players from 107 countries. This test allowed NHN to assess game stability and quality after incorporating feedback from two closed beta tests (CBTs) in South Korea.

Notably, the game’s PC version was introduced to the public for the first time through Steam Next Fest, attracting significant attention.

Global Test Highlights

  • The test attracted players from 107 countries, with high participation from the United States, Brazil, and China, regions known for their strong interest in shooting games.
  • South Korean players showed engagement levels comparable to global markets, with the highest average playtime per user.
  • The game’s three multiplayer modes—Zombie Defense, Co-op Boss Raid, and Conflict Zone—were well-received.
  • The co-op boss battle against “Necropula” saw 87 attempts, with a high success rate of 86%.
  • Two players reached the max level 40 during the test.

Darkest Days is also gaining traction on Steam, with wishlist registrations surpassing 150,000 users. The game performed well during Steam Next Fest, securing a top ranking in the “Most Anticipated Upcoming Games” and “Most Played Demos” categories.

NHN has scheduled the Open Beta Test (OBT) for late April to solidify its global rollout foundation. The decision to adjust the schedule from the initially planned Q1 release was made to further refine core gameplay elements and address player feedback. The development team is focusing on improvements to the PC UI, sound design optimization, and enhancing gameplay depth across all modes.
