Mitsui Chemicals Launches New $60M Global Investment Fund

Tokyo, Japan – Mitsui Chemicals, Inc., a global chemicals manufacturer based in Japan, has announced the launch of its second Corporate Venture Capital (CVC) fund, named 321Catalyst™, and the establishment of a new subsidiary, 321Catalyst Ventures, Inc., which will be responsible for managing the fund.

The company states that the mission of 321Catalyst™ is to accelerate global innovation partnerships and the launch of new products and businesses. Building on the experience of its first fund, 321FORCE™, launched in 2022, the new fund, established independently in the USA, signals Mitsui Chemicals’ increased focus on global investments in innovative startups that align with its strategic priorities.

The company believes strong innovation partnerships with portfolio companies will help it launch new businesses more quickly. 321Catalyst™ has a fund size of $60 million and a planned lifespan of 10 years.

Mitsui Chemicals aims to strengthen its strategy of ‘building solutions-based business models,’ outlined in its Long-Term Business Plan, VISION 2030. The company plans to continue investing in startups worldwide to expedite the introduction of new products and businesses and transform its business portfolio.

The new CVC fund, 321Catalyst LP, is registered in San Jose, California, USA, and was established on May 6th, 2025. It plans to invest globally across various stages (Seed and beyond) and industries, including Life & Healthcare, Mobility, ICT, Sustainability, and other new sectors.

The subsidiary managing the fund as General Partner, 321Catalyst Ventures, Inc., is also located in San Jose, California, USA. It was established on April 10th, 2025, and is wholly owned by Mitsui Chemicals America, Inc. Shunsuke Fujii serves as its President.
