Online, Global (May 22, 2025) – Marvel Games and NetEase Games have released full details for Season 2.5, titled “Hellfire Gala,” coming to the superhero team-based PVP shooter Marvel Rivals.
Set to launch on May 30, the update will introduce Ultron as a new playable hero, alongside a new map, Arakko, and various new features.
Ultron, described as a “Strategist” hero and the “pinnacle of artificial lifeforms,” will join the game’s expanding roster. He is programmed to learn and adapt, capable of summoning an army of automated drones to aid him in battle.

The narrative backdrop for Season 2.5 involves Ultron’s attack on the Hellfire Gala, the theft of Cerebro, and his evolution into X-Tron. He has retreated to Arakko, previously Krakoa’s sister island, which Ultron has transformed into a “cold, merciless mechanical world.” The new Arakko map will serve as a battleground where heroes must team up with Krakoa to confront Ultron. The announcement also details expansions to the game’s dynamic Team-Up Ability system. Season 2.5 will add six new Team-Up Abilities, remove four, and adjust one existing pairing, meaning over 50% of Team-Up Abilities will have changed compared to Season 0.
Notably, the update will include the highly requested Jeff-nado Team-Up Ability.
Additional new features coming with the launch of Season 2.5 include hero proficiency avatars displayed on the hero select wheel and two new personalization systems: Mood and Emojis.
Furthermore, starting June 6, a new limited-time experimental mode called Ultron’s Battle Matrix Protocol will be available. This mode allows six players to choose their own hero lineups, craft unique builds by enhancing hero traits, and engage in battles against others. This mode is described as an experiment to fulfill player fantasies of amplifying Marvel Super Heroes and Super Villains.
