Huawei Announces Winners of Global ICT Competition

Shenzhen, China – The Huawei ICT Competition 2024–2025 Global Final has concluded with a closing and awards ceremony held in Shenzhen.

The ninth edition of the competition saw record participation, attracting over 210,000 students and instructors from more than 2,000 colleges and universities across over 100 countries and regions. Following preliminary rounds, 179 teams from 48 countries and regions reached the Global Final.

The competition featured three main tracks: Practice, Innovation, and Programming.

Top honors were awarded to 18 teams from nine countries, including China, Algeria, Brazil, Philippines, Morocco, Nigeria, Serbia, Tanzania, and Singapore.

Grand Prize winners in the Innovation Competition came from institutions in the Philippines, China, Serbia, and Morocco.

In the Practice Competition, Grand Prizes were awarded across the Network, Cloud, and Computing tracks to teams from various countries, including China, Brazil, Nigeria, Tanzania, Philippines, Algeria, and Singapore.

A team from China also took the Grand Prize in the Programming Competition.

In addition to the technical prizes, special awards were presented. Four all-female teams from Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Germany, and Kenya received the Women in Tech Award.

The Green Development Award was presented to a team from Ghana.

The Most Valuable Instructor Award recognized 18 instructors from 10 countries for their contributions to ICT education.

Ritchie Peng, Director of the ICT Strategy & Business Development Dept at Huawei, spoke about the competition’s evolution. He stated that the competition topics are designed to align with the vision for an Intelligent World 2030, encouraging students to use technologies like cloud computing, big data, and AI for social progress.

He also noted the focus on green development and digital inclusion in the Innovation Competition, challenging participants to address real-world issues in sectors like agriculture, healthcare, and education.

With the acceleration of digital transformation globally, there’s a growing demand for skilled professionals in areas like AI, big data, and cybersecurity, alongside a recognized talent shortage. The Huawei ICT Competition, through its various tracks and initiatives like industry-academia collaboration, aims to help address this by equipping students with relevant skills and fostering future tech talent.

During the event, Huawei also hosted the AI Accelerating Education Transformation Summit, discussing the role of AI in smart education. Huawei also announced the AI Capability of the Huawei ICT Academy Intelligent Platform to improve the learning experience for educators and students.
