The Google Registry has announced its celebration of 5 years of the .dev domain extension.
The dedicated domain registry of Google manages the .app, .dev, .foo, .nexus, .mov and .zip top-level domains which launched in May and Spring 5 years ago.
The .dev domain is explicitly designed for technology, programming languages, blogs, and projects with a focus on developers.
The .dev top-level domain has since garnered over 600,000 domain registrations.
Websites such as Web.dev(Google’s One Stop Shop for practical advice for web developers), Sigstore.dev (OpenSSF project to simplify code signing for open source ecosystems), Transparency.dev(transparency advocacy site), Motion.dev(developer Matt Perry’s native browser animation experiments) and Zed.dev (open source code editor) have made the .dev TLD their home.
During the celebration, customers who purchase a new domain can register standard-priced .dev domains at a 50% discount through one of Google Registry’s preferred partners.
Namecheap, name.com, porkbun, EnCirca, gandi.net, 101domain.com, spaceship, yay, dynadot, DonDominio, INWX, DomainTechnik.at, OVH.com, www.363.hk and Realtime Register.
The discount will be available from May 1 – 31 2024.
To participate in the offer, all you need to do is use any of Google’s registry partners.
