Eric Trump Discusses New Bitcoin Mining Venture at Toronto Conference

Toronto, CanadaEric Trump, son of the former U.S. president, was a central figure on the second day of the Consensus 2025 conference in Toronto, where he discussed his newly launched bitcoin mining company, American Bitcoin.

Appearing on stage with Asher Genoot, co-founder of American Bitcoin and CEO of Hut 8, Trump reiterated his strong belief in the digital asset, stating, “I really believe in digital gold, which is bitcoin.”

During the onstage conversation, Trump outlined the vision for American Bitcoin, a firm founded in partnership with Hut 8. He emphasized the strategic advantage of mining bitcoin at a lower cost.

“If I can mine an asset for literally a third the cost that is trading right now, and we can do that in America using the lowest cost energy anywhere in the world, and you’re doing that with an asset that appreciates 60% year over year has been one of the greatest stores of value probably in the history of humanity. That’s an awesome combination,” Trump said, drawing the largest audience seen at Consensus this year.

Trump also shared that his initial interest in cryptocurrency was sparked by political opposition. “It wasn’t until the very same group that was attacking my family for no reason whatsoever other than political beliefs, started attacking the crypto community that it really drove two people who might not have always been like-minded together and that partnership has been absolutely amazing.” He added that attendees can expect American Bitcoin to accumulate a significant amount of bitcoin while aiming to be the most cost-efficient miner.

Consensus 2025, running until May 16 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, is described as the world’s longest-running and most influential gathering for the crypto, blockchain, and AI industries. It attracts a wide range of attendees, including industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators, for discussions on topics like DeFi, tokenized real-world assets (RWAs), decentralized AI, and the evolving regulatory landscape.

This year is the first time the conference has been held in Toronto, with plans announced to expand to Hong Kong and Miami in 2026.

Eric Trump is also scheduled to return to the Consensus stage on May 16 to speak about stablecoins.
