Jamaica, December 13, 2025 – The frantic pace of Christmas shipping has hit a major snag across the island, and CourierBox Limited, a key logistics player, is pulling back the curtain on the widespread delays.
Many “C-Boxers” are rightfully frustrated, seeing packages held up for weeks, even those that arrived at the warehouse early. But according to CourierBox, this isn’t just an isolated issue; it’s a systemic gridlock impacting every courier on the island.
The primary culprit? Airline capacity. CourierBox explicitly states that all couriers in Jamaica rely on the same airlines, predominantly Caribbean Airlines and IBC. These carriers are currently operating at full throttle, prioritizing existing cargo before accepting new shipments. This means a backlog at the airline’s end, directly translating to stalled packages awaiting pickup from courier warehouses. It begs the question: how prepared were these airlines for the annual holiday surge, or is this an unforeseen crisis?
Compounding the airline bottleneck is an “extraordinary surge” in large, single-piece packages this season. These aren’t just small gift boxes; they are items demanding significantly more manpower, processing time, and, critically, physical space. To visualize the scale, CourierBox has expanded its operations into an additional 15,000 square feet of uncovered outdoor space, in addition to its existing 15,000 sq ft indoor warehouse. Every inch is being utilized, as many customers can even attest to from proof-of-delivery photos.
The unpredictable Jamaican weather hasn’t helped either. Recent heavy rainfall dramatically slowed the ability to process and pack pallets in the outdoor areas. This led to some packages being temporarily placed in the “Unknown” section of their system for safekeeping, causing further confusion and a lack of immediate updates for concerned customers. It’s a perfect storm of logistical challenges, isn’t it?
CourierBox, known for its services simplifying international shipping for Jamaican consumers, insists its team is working “around the clock” to battle the backlog and manage the constant daily arrivals. To safeguard shipments, they’ve rented multiple storage containers for overflow cargo. Where containers aren’t feasible, packages are palletized and protected under tents and tarpaulins, shielding them as best as possible from the elements. This commitment to transparency and proactive communication is certainly a positive step in a frustrating situation.
Despite these efforts, the reality remains stark: delays are widespread, affecting every courier on the island due to shared airline constraints. CourierBox urges patience, emphasizing that their teams are committed to getting every package processed, protected, and dispatched the moment airline space becomes available.
While their promise of efficiency and safety is reassuring, this peak season has truly tested the resilience of Jamaica’s logistics infrastructure, reminding consumers that even the simplest shipping can become a complex, challenging journey during the holidays.
