KETCHIKAN, USA (June 3, 2025) – Great news for the preservation of Southeast Alaska heritage! The Cape Fox Cultural Foundation (CFCF) has announced it has received a grant from the American Indian Alaska Native Tourism Association (AIANTA) in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service.
This funding is part of the NATIVE Act initiative and will support CFCF’s efforts to enhance cultural tourism and recreation, helping to advance Native American communities.
Specifically, the grant money will go towards restoring parts of Saxman Native Park. A key project will be recreating the frog border at Saxman Totem Park. To help with this, CFCF has put out a “Call to Carvers.”

This is a fantastic chance for carvers to gain experience, sharpen their skills, and connect with fellow artists from other areas. It also allows CFCF to continue supporting the Saxman, Alaska, community and fulfill its mission of preserving its rich heritage and culture.
Jamie White, Project Manager for Cape Fox Cultural Foundation, who led the grant application, shared her enthusiasm. “Funding such as this helps support the mission of CFCF, which hopes to continue bringing opportunities to the community of Cape Fox and the Village of Saxman,” she commented.
The Cape Fox Cultural Foundation is dedicated to providing educational and cultural services to the public. Its goal is to preserve and support the heritage, culture, and future of the Cape Fox community and the wider Southeast Alaska region. This grant underscores that commitment by enabling a tangible restoration project at a significant cultural site.
If you’re interested in learning more about this project or if you’re a carver looking to apply for the Saxman Totem Project, you can email Jamie White at [email protected].

Cape Fox Corporation (CFC), which includes the Cape Fox Cultural Foundation, was formed under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) of 1971 as the Alaska Native Corporation for the village of Saxman.
Today, CFC is a family of businesses operating in federal contracting and commercial sectors, specializing in areas like information technology, healthcare services, and more, while remaining deeply connected to its roots and supporting initiatives like the Cultural Foundation’s work.
