Bahamas Welcomes New Flights from North Carolina

The Bahamas just got a little closer for travelers in North Carolina.

Avelo Airlines is launching a new nonstop route between Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) and Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) in Nassau, starting June 11th.

This new service, announced by the American ultralow-cost airline, will operate twice weekly, on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

It’s a move that’s being celebrated by Bahamian officials. “We are excited to welcome this new service from Avelo Airlines,” said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments & Aviation, I. Chester Cooper. He emphasized the government’s commitment to growing air travel to the islands.

Tourism Director General Latia Duncombe added that this new route strengthens access from North Carolina, a key market for The Bahamas. She highlighted the ease of travel Avelo offers, making it simpler for people to experience the islands’ culture and hospitality.

Avelo Airlines, based in Houston, Texas, began serving RDU in 2022 and expanded into the Caribbean earlier this year.

This new Nassau route builds on existing travel demand, complementing Bahamasair’s service to Freeport, Grand Bahama.

Since launching in April 2021, Avelo has carried over 6.3 million passengers on nearly 50,000 flights. The Bahamas is their newest international addition.

The Bahamas, with over 700 islands and cays, offers a diverse range of experiences. Just 50 miles off the coast of Florida, it’s a convenient escape for many. The islands are known for their world-class fishing, diving, boating, and stunning beaches.
