ASUS ROG Teams Up with Xbox for Next-Gen Gaming Handhelds

LOS ANGELES, USA (June 8, 2025) – Get ready to take your Xbox and PC gaming anywhere! ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) and Xbox have teamed up to announce an exciting new series of handheld gaming devices: the ROG Xbox Ally and the ROG Xbox Ally X. These devices are designed from the ground up with improved comfort and a smooth, player-focused experience, blending the best of Xbox and PC gaming into one package.

Developed in partnership with the Xbox team, the new ROG Xbox Ally handhelds aim to offer top-tier ergonomics and a full-screen Xbox experience. “We wanted to take our handheld to the next level, but we could not do it alone,” said Shawn Yen, Head of the Consumer product team at ASUS. “This revolutionary partnership with Microsoft allowed us to forge a brand new device with ROG muscle and the soul of Xbox.”

These new handhelds pack some serious tech:

  • The ROG Xbox Ally features an AMD Ryzen™ Z2 A Processor, focused on power efficiency for better battery life.
  • The more powerful ROG Xbox Ally X sports the new AMD Ryzen™ AI Z2 Extreme Processor, promising next-level performance for demanding AAA games. This model also includes an NPU, ready for future AI features.

Both models are set to launch during the Holiday 2025 season in select markets, with plans to expand availability later.

A major focus for the new series is comfort. Based on feedback from previous models, the redesigned chassis takes inspiration from Xbox controllers, featuring contoured grips and texturing patterns to feel great in your hands for those long gaming sessions. The ROG Xbox Ally X also adds impulse triggers for enhanced haptic feedback in supported games, a feature familiar and expected by Xbox players.

The software experience has also been refined. While the original Ally used Armoury Crate, ROG and Xbox wanted to make using Windows 11 for handheld gaming even smoother. “We wanted to create an authentic Xbox experience in a handheld form factor,” explained Roanne Sones, CVP at Xbox. Now, when you turn on the device, you’ll jump straight into a full-screen Xbox experience optimized for the Ally. Powered by Windows 11 underneath, navigation is easy with joysticks and buttons, and quick settings access is available via the Game Bar. Plus, because it runs Windows 11, you still have the flexibility to access games and mods from other sources.

Performance and efficiency are key. The AMD Ryzen Z2 series processors are designed to be more efficient than the previous generation while still delivering excellent gaming performance. The ROG Xbox Ally X features an upgraded 80Wh battery (compared to 60Wh on the base Ally), 24GB of faster memory, and a 1TB M.2 2280 SSD slot that’s easier to upgrade. Both chips support AMD’s latest software features like FSR, RSR, and AFMF for improved frame rates and smoothness.

This initiative is all about delivering the power of Xbox, the build quality of ROG, and the versatility of Windows in a cohesive and comfortable handheld device.
