MoMo is essentially a Vietnam version of China’s WePay with primary features such as Social Search and Instant messaging.

The Vietnam-based eWallet plans to be the Vietnam super-app and has been accepted in over 80% of food and beverage outlets and 70% of supermarkets in Vietnam according to Adyen.

It is one of Vietnam’s largest eWallet and aims to double its users to 50 million according to a report by Reuters when MoMo raised over $100 million from Warburg Pincus. The company also counts Mizuho Invests, Affirma Capital Singapore PTE, Kora Management, Macquarie Capital, and Tybourne Capital Management as an investor.

MoMo has also raised $200 million from four investors led by Mizuho Bank, pushing its valuation above $2 billion. Check out the MoMo Crunchbase article.

MoMo has the goal of going public in 2025 and no doubt this could be an avenue to fuel even more adoption of the app in Vietnam and an expansion to other countries if it likes.

The service can be found installed on both iOS and Android devices.
