Santa Monica, California, USAApple Music is teaming up with Universal Music Group (UMG) to introduce Sound Therapy, a new audio wellness collection designed to assist listeners with common goals like achieving clearer focus, deeper relaxation, and better sleep. The initiative was announced on May 13, 2025.

This collaboration represents a significant step for both companies in the realm of music and well-being. Michael Nash, UMG’s EVP & Chief Digital Officer, noted in the report that elevating music’s role in health has been a strategic priority for UMG, calling the launch with Apple “an important validation” of their science-led Sollos initiative.

Available exclusively to Apple Music subscribers, Sound Therapy blends familiar songs with specially designed sound waves. Based on scientific research including psychoacoustics and cognitive science, and powered by UMG’s proprietary audio technologies developed by their Sollos venture, the collection aims to enhance daily routines while respecting the original artist’s vision.

The collection features extended, instrumental, or reimagined versions of tracks from various acclaimed artists, including Imagine Dragons, Katy Perry, Kacey Musgraves, Ludovico Einaudi, AURORA, Jhené Aiko, Chelsea Cutler, and Jeremy Zucker.

Sound Therapy is organized into three core categories:

  • Focus: Utilizes gamma auditory beats and white noise, a blend of sound frequencies designed to mask distractions and potentially support improved cognitive performance and concentration.
  • Relax: Incorporates theta auditory beats into songs to help listeners unwind and achieve a state of relaxation.
  • Sleep: Features delta auditory beats or pink noise (gentle, natural sounds like rain) aimed at encouraging deeper sleep.

For example, a dreamy version of Katy Perry’s “Double Rainbow” is suggested for winding down, while an Imagine Dragons track might be included to help tackle tasks requiring concentration.

The collection follows the recent launch of the Apple Music Chill radio station, providing another space for calm audio.

Maintain Focus

The Focus category is designed to support improved cognitive performance and concentration, tapping into the power of gamma auditory beats to help listeners get in the mindset to achieve optimum focus. White noise masks distracting sounds to help listeners stay in the moment.

Time to Relax

Songs in the Relax category are made for letting go, blending and infusing in theta auditory beats to help achieve ultimate relaxation.

Made for Sleep

The Sleep category is designed to encourage deeper sleep through an infusion of delta auditory beats or pink noise, which works similarly to white noise but uses natural sounds like rainfall and ocean waves.

Apple has a long-standing commitment to health through products like Apple Watch and HealthKit. The company plans to work closely with Sollos and UMG to build further scientific evidence for the benefits of music and audio on well-being and explore ways to make these benefits accessible globally. Sound Therapy is designed to support overall well-being but is not intended as a medical treatment.

Universal Music Group is a world leader in music-based entertainment. Apple Music provides a vast catalog of songs, curated playlists, and artist content, offering a premium listening experience globally.
