Animoca Brands acquires Social Gaming Platform GAMEE

Animoca Brands has acquired the Prague based social casual gaming platform, GAMEE for over $4,506,700 (approximately €4 million / A$6.53 million) in shares plus earn-out payments of up to $1,126,685 US (approx. €1 million / A$1.3 million) in cash or shares.

GAMEE is a social casual gaming platform based out of the Czech Republic with over 80 game titles. The company has $1 US (€700,000 / A$1.15m) in cash and no debts.

GAMME is a remarkable acquisition given apart from its in-house HTML5 skills, it not only has a portfolio of 80 casual games but a gaming community of 13 million registered users. To top that all off, it even has a whopping 1.3 million monthly game users across its games and platform.

GAMEE was founded back in 2015 by Bozena Rezab, Miroslav Chmelka, Jan Castek, and Lukas Stibor and headquartered in Prague of the Czech Republic. The team was fill with skill and experience as

  • Bozema Rezab (GAMEEs CEO) had previous worked at Google and had responsibility for YouTube’s Business Development across European markets. She also had 15 years of experience developing consumer technology brands and businesses.
  • GAMEE’s Chief of Product, Jan Castek is an experience entrepreneur with over 10 years creating several consumer tech products ranging from social networks to finance applications.
  • Miroslav Chmelka, GAMEE’s Chief of Technology has over a decade of experience in technology development for consumer facing services.
  • Toping off the team is Marvin Hill, GAMEEs Creative Lead who has over 25 years of experience in creating games which includes seven years as the Art Director at Disney Mobile.

GAMEE has done a number of accomplishments which includes being one of the first game developers to launch games in the messaging apps Telegram(2016) and Viber(2018), among popular global game companies chosen for Facebook Instant Games (others included Konami, Bandai Namco, King and Zynga), listed among the 100 Disruptive Brands by MarketingWeek and most notably listed by Forbes as one of the Czech Republic’s 10 most promising startups.

The acquisition is a strategic one for Animoca Brands who have until now not had a foot in the massive web gaming niche. This niche according to ResearchAndMarkets report titled Browser Games Global Market Report 2020-30: COVID-19 Implications and Growth is expected to grow to US$26.26 billion (approx. A$38.2 billion) by 2020 and reach US$28.18 billion (approx. A$41 billion) by 2023.

HTML5 also has the advantage of enabling cross-platform functionality across a wide range of operating systems(Windows/Linux/iOS) and devices (PC/Mobile devices/Smart TVs). HTML5 holds the status as the de facto alternative to run games on social media platforms such as Telegram, Facebook Messenger, Wechat and major web browser’s (Chrome, IE, Firefox).

Animoca brands acknowledge in its announcement that it will leverage GAMEE’s knowledge and skillset’s to launch browser games which will be made available across various social media platforms, These games will utilize blockchain tech and Animoca brands extensive portfolio of brands.
