Colonial Beach, Va., November 15, 2025 – With Thanksgiving just around the corner, many are already bracing for the supermarket frenzy.

But for those in the know, a different kind of bird is taking center stage. Blackbird Farms, nestled in the woods of Warsaw, Virginia, is kicking off its annual holiday turkey harvest in just seven days, and they’re urging locals to secure their Artisan Gold birds now before they’re gone.

This isn’t your average grocery store gobbler; it’s a labor of love, and the window to claim one is rapidly closing.

Blackbird Farms is making a clear stand against the mass-produced, bland birds that often grace holiday tables. Their Artisan Gold turkeys are a slow-growing breed, specifically chosen for their “much richer flavor” compared to traditional broad-breasted whites.

These aren’t factory-farmed birds; they’re rotated free-range through the forest, enjoying a natural diet of heavy forage that, according to the farm, profoundly augments their unique taste. It’s a special passion project for Mason, one of the farm’s dedicated owners, pouring “a lot of love and work” into preparing these gobblers for your festive feast.

So, what’s the catch for this premium poultry? The birds are estimated to dress between 12 and 19 lbs and are priced at $13/lb. You can reserve yours with a $49 deposit, a small price to pay for a centerpiece that promises to be a conversation starter.

The farm anticipates a surge of last-minute orders, so if a truly flavorful, ethically raised bird is on your menu, delaying is not an option.

Convenience hasn’t been forgotten either. Turkeys can be picked up directly at the Blackbird Farms shop in Colonial Beach from November 24-26.

For those within their delivery area, the farm offers direct-to-door delivery during the same timeframe for a $20 fee. A crucial detail for the discerning chef: these turkeys will be delivered fresh, not frozen. This commitment to quality means someone needs to be home to receive the bird, or a cooler must be left out for placement. It’s a small logistical ask for a superior product.

Blackbird Farms isn’t just selling a turkey; they’re selling an experience—a taste of Virginia’s rich agricultural heritage.

For many, supporting local farms and prioritizing quality over convenience has become a defining characteristic of their holiday planning.

This isn’t just about Thanksgiving dinner; it’s about celebrating tradition, community, and genuinely good food.

If you’re looking to elevate your holiday table with a bird that tells a story, rather than just filling a plate, Blackbird Farms has your answer. Just don’t wait too long; these birds are almost ready to fly.
