Apple has announced a significant update for AirPods Max, bringing lossless audio and ultra-low latency capabilities next month.
This update positions AirPods Max as a unique tool for both audiophiles and music creators.
The key feature is the introduction of 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio.
When connected with a USB-C cable, AirPods Max will provide high-fidelity sound, allowing users to experience music as the artist intended.

Apple Music subscribers will have access to over 100 million lossless tracks.
For music professionals, this update is a game-changer. AirPods Max will become the only headphones capable of creating and mixing in Personalized Spatial Audio with head tracking when used with Logic Pro and other music creation apps via the USB-C cable.
The ultra-low latency audio ensures seamless recording and mixing without compromising sound quality.
Gamers and live streamers will also benefit from the reduced latency, bringing lag time down to levels comparable to built-in speakers on Mac, iPad, and iPhone.
This translates to smoother, more immersive gameplay and livestreaming experiences.
The lossless audio and ultra-low latency features will be available as a free firmware update in April, requiring iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4, and macOS Sequoia 15.4.

AirPods Max are currently priced at $549 and are available in five colors. A new USB-C to 3.5 mm audio cable, priced at $39, is also available, allowing users to connect AirPods Max to various audio sources, including airplane audio-out ports and car stereos.
